Perforator veins are short venous bridges between the superficial and deep system. They travel obliquely and perforate the deep fascia to connect the two systems. They play an important role in regulating blood flow during muscle contraction. They can exist throughout the length of the GSV and SSV, however there are 4 clinically important regions of the GSV that have named perforator veins including upper thigh (Hunternian Perforators), lower thigh (Dodd’s Perforators), knee (Boyd’s Perforators) and calf region (Cockett’s Perforators).
