Proven Treatment | Safer Treatment | Less Risks/ Minimal Side-effects
The treatment is performed in the clinic — no hospital stay, no general anaesthetic, and no
incisions are needed.
What are the benefits of VenaSealtm?
No heat used – unlike laser or radiofrequency treatments, VenaSeal™ does not use heat, eliminating the risk of heat-related nerve injury. This is a particular advantage when treating the small saphenous vein, which runs close to the sural nerve.
Only one needle entry point – no requirement for multiple local anaesthetic injections along the length of the vein, reducing procedural discomfort.
Walk in, walk out – most patients leave the clinic within an hour and can return to normal light activities the same day.
Visible results quickly – many patients notice visible improvement within as little as one week, with full healing typically occurring over 4–6 weeks.
Supported by clinical trial evidence
VenaSeal™ has been evaluated in clinical trials in Australia, the United States, and Europe. The VeClose randomised controlled trial — a prospective, multicentre study – demonstrated that VenaSeal™ achieved vein closure rates comparable to radiofrequency ablation at 3 months, 12 months, 24 months, and out to 5 years of follow-up.
Advanced Vein Clinics was the first clinic in Australia to perform VenaSeal™, and we continue to be one of the country’s most experienced providers of this treatment.
The Procedure
Before Treatment
- Your surgeon will review your health history and examine your legs.
- An ultrasound scan will map the veins to plan your treatment.
- All treatment options will be explained, and any questions answered, before anything proceeds.
On Treatment Day
- A small amount of local anaesthetic is applied at the entry point on the skin.
- A thin, flexible tube (catheter) is guided into the vein using ultrasound.
- The VenaSeal™ adhesive is delivered through the catheter at precise intervals along the vein.
- The vein seals closed as the adhesive sets. The catheter is then removed.
- A small dressing is applied over the entry point. No stitches are needed.
After Treatment
- Most patients rest briefly in the clinic before leaving.
- Daily walking is encouraged from day one — it promotes healthy circulation and supports healing.
- Compression dressings and stockings are applied before you leave. For best results you will wear the compression stockings for 2 weeks
- Many patients notice visible improvement within as little as one week. Full healing typically occurs over 4–6 weeks. Return to normal exercise and heavy lifting is generally safe at 4–6 weeks, as guided by your surgeon.
